I just gave a deposition in a patent-infringement case. For those of you who have never been deposed, imagine 7 straight hours of sworn testimony under oath where the opposing counsel asks you the same question 5 different ways trying to trick you into saying something that your counsel doesn't want you to say. There is a court reporter dutifully recording every word you utter, including all your run-ons, incomplete sentences and hundreds of "uhs". To top it all off, there is a video camera in your face all day, so no frowning, slouching, fidgeting, etc. Can you spell stress?
Near the end of the day, our lead counsel told me I was doing great and asked how I was holding up. I told him I would rather be waterboarded. He seemed surprised and asked "Really? Why?". I said, "I heard waterboarding only lasts 30 minutes". He cracked up and asked if he could have my permission to use that line! Silly, but that was the highlight of my day.
On the way home I stopped by Quail Hill and ran 5.5 miles to blow off some stress. It felt hard but good at the same time. Amazing what a little sweat can do for the soul.
