How to Make a Grown Man Cry

I remember lying collapsed on the floor, clutching my face in my hands.  When the pain first started, it was already severe enough to make me gasp.  Then it got worse.  Reacting to the increased intensity, I instinctively produced a manly shout. That shout quickly deteriated into a girlish wimper as I approached the realm of tears. A haunting thought came to focus in my brain - "This is it. I'm going to die".

That is the true story of my first encounter with a foam roller.  Now I had seen many recommendations for foam rollers inthe past, but I am not one to believe hype.  Besides, I already massage my muscles regularly with a device called "The Stick".  I have used it for years and always felt it to be more than adequate;  believe me, it can dish out pain.  What shocked me is that "The Stick" is like a mere child's toy compared to the full frontal fury of a foam roller.  Had the CIA enlisted foam rollers as an "Enhanced Interrogation Technique", we might have found Bin Laden with more expediency.  Who knows?

Hours later, one of my legs is in a lot of pain.  My knee, hip and buttocks are aching.  I took an ibuprofen and iced myself into an uncomfortable sleep.  The next morning I wasn't limping.  My leg felt better than it had in months.  24 hours later some of the old pain is creeping back, but I know I can deal with it and won't actually die doing it.

In case after reading this you have an irresistable urge to rush out and buy a foam roller, mine came from Target, cost $19.99 and came with a DVD on how to use it.  The young woman in the video is smiling through the whole thing.  Every area she works on seems to bring her pleasure, not pain.  Don't be deceived!  I think she is using a soft pillow disguised as a foam roller.

I love the foam roller! And yes it can be very painful. Funny, I just posted a blog that mentions the foam roller. I have yelled out in pain many times foam rolling. But what a relief later!
